Inkling Celebrates Pride and Diversity Every Day
As a global community, we celebrate Pride every June in honor of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City. This year marks the 50th anniversary of those monumental riots and demonstrations, which broke out in protest to a raid by plainclothes police officers of a renowned gay bar called The Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood.
At the time, anti-discrimination laws didn’t exist. The spontaneous reaction of the community quickly became a tipping point in the fight for human rights as they relate to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. The first Gay Pride march took place one year later to commemorate this historic day, setting in motion a now-annual tradition and paving the way for Pride Month.
At Inkling, we celebrate Pride every day by embracing diversity, promoting transparency and grit, and championing equal rights. We demand ontological humility from each other, which means we listen to and seek to understand individuals for who they are. These values form the basis of our open culture and are an integral part of our organizational beliefs.
We know that every action (or inaction) matters, which is why we champion diversity and inclusion with our external messaging, marketing materials, and media. This month, Inkling’s digital branding also stands in solidarity with the LGBTQA+ community as our rainbow-colored logo graces our social media pages and website.
Additionally, the Inkling core values are consistently on display in our workplace, both in day-to-day operations and at internal events. For example, we recently held a Paint Night Happy Hour where Inkblots tapped into their inner Warhols and Michelangelos while painting Pride-themed images together. The event was a wonderful tribute to diversity and inclusiveness (and demonstrated that we have some aspiring artists amongst us!)
While Pride month and June 28 are valuable reminders of the fight for equality, and symbols of resistance to social and political discrimination, we believe in celebrating Pride and diversity every single day. We hope you will join us in our efforts to continue learning from and growing with each other as we promote human rights and cultural awareness for everyone.
